HTML5<\/span><\/b>\u00a0is a\u00a0markup language\u00a0used for structuring and presenting content on the\u00a0World Wide Web. It is the fifth and current major version of the\u00a0HTML\u00a0standard.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was published in October 2014 by the\u00a0World Wide Web Consortium\u00a0(W3C)\u00a0to improve the language with support for the latest multimedia, while keeping it both easily readable by humans and consistently understood by computers and devices such as\u00a0web browsers,\u00a0parsers, etc. HTML5 is intended to subsume not only\u00a0HTML\u00a04, but also\u00a0XHTML\u00a01 and\u00a0DOM Level 2 HTML. <\/span><\/p>\n

HTML5 includes detailed processing models to encourage more interoperable implementations; it extends, improves and rationalizes the markup available for documents, and introduces markup and\u00a0application programming interfaces\u00a0(APIs) for complex\u00a0web applications.\u00a0For the same reasons, HTML5 is also\u00a0a candidate for cross-platform mobile applications, because it includes features designed with low-powered devices in mind.<\/span><\/p>\n

Many new\u00a0syntactic\u00a0features are included. To natively include and handle\u00a0multimedia\u00a0and\u00a0graphical\u00a0content, the new\u00a0<\/span><video><\/span><\/code>,\u00a0<\/span><audio><\/span><\/code>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><canvas><\/span><\/code>elements\u00a0were added, and support for scalable vector graphics (SVG) content and\u00a0MathML\u00a0for mathematical formulas. To enrich the\u00a0semantic\u00a0content of documents, new page structure elements such as\u00a0<\/span><main><\/span><\/code>,\u00a0<\/span><section><\/span><\/code>,\u00a0<\/span><article><\/span><\/code>,\u00a0<\/span><header><\/span><\/code>,\u00a0<\/span><footer><\/span><\/code>,\u00a0<\/span><aside><\/span><\/code>,\u00a0<\/span><nav><\/span><\/code>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><figure><\/span><\/code>, are added. New\u00a0attributes\u00a0are introduced, some elements and attributes have been removed, and others such as\u00a0<\/span><a><\/span><\/code>,\u00a0<\/span><cite><\/span><\/code>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><menu><\/span><\/code>\u00a0have been changed, redefined or standardized.<\/span><\/p>\n
